LADD'S ADDITION

Named after a one time mayor of Portland, William Ladd, Ladd’s Addition is a unique neighborhood that stands out on a map and also when walking through the tree lined streets. William Ladd, also famous for building the first brick building in Portland, once owned all the land that makes up the neighborhood. The most unique aspect of Ladd’s Addition is the way the neighborhood is laid out. Taking inspiration from Washington DC, William Ladd laid out the neighborhood in a “wagon-wheel” formation with each road leading to the central hub known as Ladd’s Circle. Each section of Ladd’s Addition is home to a rose garden planted in 1909. The roses are still going strong today. Ladd’s Addition provides its occupants with a glimpse back in time.
